Our Healthy Herd Program is designed to give your horse the very best in proactive, year-round veterinary care. Horses thrive when their health is managed consistently, not just when something goes wrong. That’s why we’ve built this program to focus on prevention, early detection, and ongoing optimisation of your horse’s wellbeing.
By enrolling in the program, you’re not just booking routine vet visits, you’re investing in a structured and reliable plan that keeps your horse healthier, safer, and performing at their best. From dental care and vaccinations to parasite control and wellness checks, everything is scheduled and tracked to ensure nothing is missed.
We’ve carefully structured each tier of the Healthy Herd Program using today’s gold-standard veterinary recommendations for equine care. This means your horse receives the same high-quality, evidence-based management adopted by leading equine veterinary practices worldwide. It’s the modern, comprehensive approach to keeping your horse in peak condition whether they’re a beloved paddock companion, a competitive athlete, a broodmare, or anything in between.
With predictable costs, timely reminders, and tailored support from our team, the Healthy Herd Program takes the stress out of horse care and helps you stay one step ahead of potential problems. It’s peace of mind, backed by best practice veterinary science.

Our Healthy Herd Program is an annual membership designed to make preventative care easy and affordable. It includes your horse’s annual dental, vaccinations, and health check, plus access to exclusive discounts and priority services throughout the year.
Our Healthy Herd Program is proactive, not reactive. You’re not just calling us when something goes wrong — you have a structured plan that protects your horse’s health all year. We build a long-term relationship with your horse, monitor them consistently, and make personalised recommendations before issues become problems.
It’s care, done smarter — not just appointments.
Yes! The Healthy Herd Program is available for all horses, ponies, donkeys and miniatures. We offer three plan options to cater to different healthcare needs. However, the current plans are not specifically designed for foals or yearlings under 1 year of age. Please speak with our team for a customised care plan if your horse is under 12 months old.
Each membership covers one nominated horse only. Benefits apply exclusively to the horse whose microchip matches the details registered under the plan. Each additional horse will need its own membership to receive the same inclusions and discounts.
That’s completely fine—you can opt out of any inclusion. However, unused services are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for other products or treatments under any circumstances.
In the event that a listed product (e.g., a vaccine brand or medication) becomes temporarily unavailable, Mackay Equine Vets may substitute an equivalent product or service at the discretion of the attending veterinarian to ensure the plan’s value and intent are maintained.
Your horse can still join the Wellness Plan. However, if your horse is unvaccinated and develops symptoms consistent with Hendra Virus, discounts will not apply to exclusion testing, PPE, or any related services, and Mackay Equine Vets reserves the right to refuse service if Hendra Virus is suspected to be present.
No. The plan includes one Hendra vaccination per year. If your horse requires the initial 3-dose primary Hendra vaccination series, only one dose will be covered under the plan. The remaining two doses, as well as the cost of microchipping, will need to be paid separately by the owner.
In this unfortunate situation, our team will calculate the value of benefits already used and refund the difference between the full membership fee and the value of services received. If the value of services used exceeds the amount paid to date, the client will be required to finalise the balance, either as a lump sum or by continuing monthly direct debit payments until the plan is paid in full.
If your horse is sold during your plan commitment, the plan remains linked to the original owner. It is your responsibility to utilise all inclusions and benefits before the horse changes ownership. Plans are not transferable, and no refunds will be issued in this circumstance. You are also responsible for completing all remaining payments, either by continuing the existing direct debit schedule or paying the outstanding balance in a lump sum.
Full travel fees apply to all on-property visits. There is no free travel included in the plan and is charged additionally to the package. If you chose to bring your horse to the clinic to redeem services, there is no travel charge applicable.
We’re happy to see your horse either on-site at the clinic or at your property (within our service area). Additional travel fees will apply and are dependent on location.
Each Healthy Herd Program runs for 12 months from the date of joining / contract signing, with the option to automatically renew annually.
Yes! Our team will send reminders for dental and vaccination scheduling, so you never miss a treatment or inclusion.
If you relocate and are unable to continue using our services, the plan remains linked to the original agreement. No refunds will be issued in this circumstance. It is your responsibility to utilise all inclusions and benefits prior to relocating. You are also required to complete all remaining payments, either by continuing the existing direct debit schedule or paying the outstanding balance in a lump sum.
You may choose to pay the full membership upfront at the time of joining or pay in monthly or fortnightly instalments via direct debit agreement. Renewal reminders will be sent one month before expiry.
Yes, you can upgrade to a higher-level plan at any time. The cost difference will be adjusted based on the remaining months of your current membership.
Yes, you are free to book your included services at any point during your 12-month membership period. We recommend booking early to ensure availability.
For example: if you sign up in January, but your horse is not due until July, your payments will be started in January and continue for 12 months, and your plan will be allocated to your account for use in July (or whenever suits you best).
If you sign up in January and use your services in January, your payments will still continue for 12 months as per the plan package.
Emergency call-outs are not included in the plan. Standard emergency fees and travel charges apply.
Our Healthy Herd Program clients may message after hours for urgent questions relating to their nominated horse(s). This service provides guidance for time-sensitive concerns outside of normal business hours.
Routine, non-urgent, and administrative enquiries should be directed to the clinic during normal business hours. Any after-hours attendance or treatment, if required, will be charged separately.
The plan does not include emergency treatments, hospitalisation, diagnostics such as X-rays or ultrasounds (unless stated), medications outside included vaccinations, wound care, colic treatment, or any exclusion testing procedures such as those related to Hendra virus in unvaccinated horses.
We believe in proactive, preventative healthcare. By encouraging owners to keep their horses up to date with routine care, we can detect health issues early, reduce the risk of emergency illness, and improve long-term wellbeing. The discounted pricing rewards responsible horse ownership and benefits our clinic by helping helps us deliver consistent, high-quality care throughout the year.
Our Healthy Herd Program offers peace of mind, cost savings and proactive care. It ensures your horse receives essential preventative healthcare on time, helps detect issues early, spreads costs across the year if paying monthly, and provides access to exclusive discounts on additional services and products.
